Bulgaria wants EIB loan for infrastructure projects?

“In certain axes of OP Transport we will have over contracting, i.e. we will exhaust the financial resources of the program, which will impose us to borrow a loan probably from the European Investment Bank, or budget funds for completion of the infrastructure projects,” said Minister of Transport, Information Technology and Communications Ivailo Moskovski at the opening of the extension of Obelya depot and the repair plant for rolling stock of Sofia metro. The event was attended by the Mayor of Sofia Yordanka Fandakova and the Executive Director of Metropolitan JSC Eng. Stoyan Bratoev. “So far we estimated that under the priority axis “Rail transport” we will need additional BGN 100 million. For the other areas an analysis is still going on,” explained Minister Moskovski. In his words, for a successive year OP Transport is the European program with the best performance in Bulgaria. The provided grant under it is 98% of its budget and the beneficiaries were paid BGN 1.718 billion, which is more than 40% of the proposed funding. Over BGN 17 million were invested in the extended depot and the repair plant of Sofia metro in Obelya. “In just this project for extension of the subway we managed to build approximately 7 km metro track, to buy 18 new metro trains and to modernize and expand the existing facility of Metropolitan, recalled Ivailo Moskovski. The modernized facility meets the growing needs of the Sofia metro after launching the second metro diameter and extension of the first one. “After launching the second metro diameter we have over 40 metro trains. Before construction of a channel lathe every train was dismantled and the elements of it were transported in BDZ for reboring,” explained Yordanka Fandakova stressing that this process took about 5 days and now the repair is done in 3 hours. The newly opened site in Obelya includes extension of the main body “Depot”, construction of administrative building corpse for accommodation and examinations of engine drivers. The third part is the plant for repair of the rolling stock that consists of 4 halls - 3 with tracks and channels, equipped with jacks for lifting trains and one for repair of assemblies and spare parts warehouse. The cost of the corpse for train repair is BGN 8.5 million. The construction of the sub sites began in 2011 and ended on 19 December 2012. Beneficiary of the project is “Metropolitan” JSC.
